Sioux City, Iowa

Michael R. "Mike" Gill, 86 of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at a local hospital, comforted by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, May 17, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska with Father Mark Beran as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery of Rural Jackson. A meal and Celebration of life will occur at the Providence Hall, adjacent to the church immediately following graveside prayers. Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church, prior to the Mass. Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mike was born on February 2, 1939 in Sioux City, Iowa to James Harold and Mary (Merchant) Gill. Following his education at Heelan High School in Sioux City, Mike married Jeanne Sides from Dakota City, Nebraska on February 20, 1960. He resided in South Sioux City, and recently with his son “Little Mike” in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mike became an apprenticed trim carpenter and journeymen carpenter, building homes in the Siouxland area. Later he was elected BA in the Brotherhood of Carpenters & Jointers, Local 948, and served four consecutive terms. Mike served 66 years in the union. Throughout his life in Siouxland, Mike enjoyed memberships at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, Nebraska and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Mike is survived by children Gerri Lou Gill, Mike Gill, Jr., Danny Joe, and Shawn Patrick; brother Joseph (Mildred) Gill; sister Rose Murphy; step-sisters Mary, Kimberly Kaye, and Alisha; grandkids Mickah Roger Fladung, Blaze, Brennan, and Tyler Haukup, Amanda & Brandon Emery, Gabe, Beau, and Shane; great-grandkids total 23 (too many to list!).

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, brothers Jack, Harold, Don, Leonard, and Dave, and sisters Mary Ann, Florence, and Theresa.
