Obituary

Melvin L. Hanner, 94, of Onawa, IA, died Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at his home.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Melvin L. Hanner, son of Wayne and Frieda (Peterson) Hanner, was born on October 5, 1932, in Hornick, IA. On June 23, 1948, Melvin married Bonnie Beauchene in Denison, IA. They spent the next 71 years together, living in Sloan, Sioux City, and Onawa.

Melvin worked at Goodyear for 25 years and later at McCraken Concrete Pipe in Maintenance and Machine Assembly, retiring in 1994. During retirement, he enjoyed camping with his family at Blue Lake, hunting and fishing in any small pond he could find, and hosting annual fish fry dinners. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee with a Jitters Donut and was always willing to share both with a good story. He took great pride in his garden and yard, making sure everything always looked its best.

Melvin is survived by his children, Dorothy Hull of Newton, IA; Larry Hanner of Onawa, IA; Chris (Mary Beth) Hanner of Sioux City, IA; and Scott (Michelle) Hanner of Onawa, IA; 21 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie; infant daughter Julie Ann; son Donald; daughters Lynette and Teri; three brothers, Phil, Delbert, and Butch; and sons-in-law Marv Hull and David Cackler.
