Maxine E. Grubel, 89, of Sioux City, passed away May 28, 2021 at a local nursing home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 2 at 10:30 A.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. Maxine was born on March 4, 1932 at home on the farm near Elk Point, SD during a blizzard to Edward and Anna (Smith) Herrity. She graduated from Elk Point High School in 1949, and was united in marriage to Henry Grubel on June 8, 1957 in Sioux City. He preceded her in death in 1992. Maxine was a homemaker and also ran the office for Grubel Refrigeration Company, a company that she and her husband owned for over 30 years. She enjoyed reading and traveling, especially to Minnesota with the whole family, and her sisters’ weekends with her sisters and sister-in-law. She also enjoyed many girls weekends with her daughters, granddaughters, sisters-in-law and nieces. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing an event they were in.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters: Glenda (Jeff) Davis, Sioux City, Lisa (Mike) Chesher, Sgt. Bluff, IA, Georgia (Eric) Grau, Sioux City, Kim (Troy) Dake, Sioux City; grandchildren: Jaime (Mike) Blankenship, Nick (Allison) Davis, Caitlin Grimsley (Andrew Irwin), Riley Grau, Shelby Grimsley (Jay Westendorf), Thomas Grau, Hunter Dake, Carson Dake (Lindsey Carter), Trey Chesher; great-grandchildren: Lainey and Jake Blankenship, Harper Grimsley, Finley and Crew Davis, and Laythm Biederman; siblings: Elaine McInerney, Creighton, NE, Pat (Susie) Herrity, Elk Point, SD, Sheila (Charley) Lake, St. Peters, MO; sisters-in-law: Joanne Rowe and Judy Petrik, both of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, John Herrity; husband, Henry; sister, Irene Hennes; in-laws: George and Chloris Grubel; several brothers-in-law; and two nieces and a nephew.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
