Matthew "Matt" B. Lanning

Matthew "Matt" B. Lanning, a beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 59. Born on September 25, 1965, in Sioux City to John C. and Kathleen A. (Zook) Lanning, Matt was raised in Sioux City, graduating from East High School.

Throughout his life, Matt was known fondly by many as "Bubba." He worked in sales for various auto part stores in Sioux City, where his personable nature and honest demeanor made him well-loved among customers and colleagues alike.

Matt had a passion for life that resonated through his interactions with people. He possessed a unique ability to connect with others, always speaking his mind and bringing humor into conversations. His love for family was profound; he cherished his nieces and nephews dearly.

A true enthusiast of the outdoors, he enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, and playing and coaching softball. He was an avid fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. He also enjoyed playing darts, shooting pool, and engaging friends in spirited games of cards.

Matt is survived by his mother Kathleen "Kathy" Lanning, his brother Mike (Bione) Lanning, and his twin brother Mark (Lisa) Lanning. Additionally, he leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, his father John Lanning, and his brother Mitch Lanning.

A memorial service to celebrate Matt's life will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, IA. Following the service, there will be refreshments and a time of fellowship in the Meyer Brothers Reception Room.
