June 29, 1953 — February 2, 2023

Mary Pat Thompson, 69 of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at a Sioux City hospital following a brief battle with lung cancer.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 P.M. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Rev. David Hemann will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 11:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M.  Tuesday at the funeral home. Online condolences may  be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mary Pat was born June 29, 1953 in Sioux City; she was the daughter of Eugene and Rose Ann (O’Kane) O’Neill. She grew up in South Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School in 1971.

On August 10, 1974, Mary Pat married the love of her life, Phillip Thompson in South Sioux City.

Mary Pat worked at Hair By Rick for several years and then retired from the Sioux City Community School District after working at West High School for 25 years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, swimming but most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Phil of Sioux City; her daughter Courtnee Malone (Dennis) of Tempe, AZ; her son Nicholas Thompson of Sioux City; 3 grandchildren: Lauren, Molly and Aaron Malone; 4 sisters: Jody Kentopp (Nick) of Omaha, NE, Nancy Wiggs of Sioux Falls, SD, Lori Meyer (Dale) of Sioux City, Sara Albrecht of Carroll, IA; 1 brother: Mark O’Neill (Dawn) of Sioux City and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Rosie, a niece Melissa Grossman, a nephew Collin Kentopp and a brother-in-law Dean Albrecht.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center or the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
