Mary C. Rickert, 86, of Sioux City, IA passed away with her family by her side on Friday, March 1, 2024, at her residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Mater Dei Parish – Nativity Church with Father Brad Pelzel, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Mary, the daughter of Gerald and Catherine (McMahon) Barrett, was born February 8, 1938, in Sioux City. Mary was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Bishop Heelan High School with the Class of 1955.
On June 15, 1957, Mary was united in marriage to Jack Rickert in Sioux City and this union was blessed with four children. They made their home in Sioux City and Mary worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 20 years.
Mary was an active member of Mater Dei Parish where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She enjoyed going to daily mass and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. Her hobbies included: sewing, knitting, playing Bridge, and caring for her flowers. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband Jack Rickert of Sioux City; children: Mike and Liz Rickert of Sioux City, Patty and Jim Calvert of Des Moines, Barb and Jim Sitzman of Plattsmouth, NE, and Julie and Tom Conolly of Moville, IA; 16 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; sister Pat Guinane; brother Jerry and his wife Denise Barrett; and two sisters-in-law: Marilyn Barrett and Jean Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Dan Barrett.
Memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice of Sioux City or Mater Dei Grade School.
