Mary R. Ehli, 93, longtime resident of Sioux City, IA passed away Friday, September 29, 2023, after a long illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2023, at Holy Cross Parish – Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Peter Nguyen, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Mary, the daughter of Frank and Cecelia (Hager) Wiest, was born October 31, 1929, at Wellsburg, ND. She grew up on a farm near Harvey, ND and graduated from Harvey High School.
On October 24, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Leo Ehli and this union was blessed with three children. Mary and Leo moved to Sioux City in 1958. She had a long career as a surgical technician at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Mary loved baking, reading, and gardening. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish – Blessed Sacrament Church. Throughout the years, she volunteered many hours at the Bargain Center.
She is survived by her daughters: Connie Smith (Jim), Peggy Lind (Jim), and Susan Boutwell; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Ted Mitzel; and two sisters-in-law: Irene Johnson and Frances Derhak.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; and three siblings: Edward Wiest, Christine Mitzel, and Arthur Wiest.
Mary’s family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for their wonderful care.
