Marvin N. Roder

Marvin N. Roder, 76, of Sioux City, IA passed away August 18, 2025 in his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Holy Cross Parish – St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Entombment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and Vigil at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

He was born January 17, 1949 to Joseph and Rosemary (Ruba) Roder of Remsen, IA. He graduated from St Mary’s High School of Remsen, IA in 1967 and soon after joined Iowa National Guard from 1967 through 1973.

Marvin married Paula Koch of Remsen, IA on June 22, 1973. He raised 3 children. He served his church, community, friends and family with his general handyman skills. He loved being an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 235 and assisted his son and grandson to Eagle Scout status. He mowed St Michael’s Church Sioux City, IA for nearly 50 years. He loved bowling, fishing, and gardening. Marvin cherished spending time with family and friends.

Marvin was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Marvin had a 1st class boilers license in which he worked at Smurfit Westrock for many years until his retirement.

Survived by his wife Paula (Koch) Roder and 3 children; daughter Chris (Roder) and Todd Olson with their three children Nathan, Monica and Joseph Olson of Sioux City, IA. Son Steve and Kim Roder of Jefferson, SD, and Jeff Roder of Sioux City, IA. Brothers: Wayne and Jill Roder and Fr Terry Roder. In-laws: Gene and Diane Koch, Dave and Jo Ann Jahn, Dave and Lori Koch, Mary and Tom Klein, Jim and Stephanie Koch.

Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Rosemary Roder and sister, Shirley Roder.
