Marvin "Marv" Dean Phillips passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, after a lengthy illness at a local nursing facility.

Marvin was born on January 7, 1936, in Luton, Iowa, to Frank and Esther (Sorenson) Phillips. His family included a sister, Lucille, and two brothers, James and Thomas. He grew up on a farm near Moville and graduated from Moville High School in 1954. He later attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Marvin began his career with Needham Packing Company, where he served as a manager. In 1970, he opened and operated Phillips Pre-Tanning, Inc. until 1974, when he built a new packinghouse by-products company, Great Plains Processing. He operated that business until 1983. He then owned and operated a marketing distribution company, C.A. Enterprises, until 2024.

He married Loretta Dalhoff on September 29, 1962, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. The ceremony was officiated by Msgr. J.J. Dalhoff.

Marv belonged to many bowling leagues and was an avid golfer. He recorded a hole-in-one at number 6 at the Sioux City Country Club, where he and Loretta were members for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Loretta. Together, they enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, as well as numerous golf trips. Marv was a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1953 to 1961. He was also a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Sioux City Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta; his brother, Thomas; and Thomas's wife, Geraldine. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lucille, and his brother, James, who passed away in 1972.

Private family services were held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Briar Cliff University or mailed to The Jesuits at 4511 West Pine Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63108-2109.
