Marvin "Marv" LeRoy Still, 87, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, just two weeks after the death of his beloved wife, Bette Jean. Born on November 10, 1938, in Ida Grove, IA, he was the son of Robert Lee and Nelly Opal (Hawn) Still. Marv was raised on a farm, growing up with nine siblings. He attended country school and later Ida Grove School, where he actively participated in FFA during his high school years. When Marv was 13 years old, his father Robert passed away which prompted Marv to leave school early to support his family. Despite the challenges he faced, Marv valued education and achieved his GED in 1968.
Marv began his career as a welder before pursuing further education at Northwestern Community College in Sheldon, IA, where he honed his skills as an electrician. He worked for several years with Thompson Electric before transitioning to become a plant electrician at General Motors Rochester Products and later at Prince Hydraulics. His dedication to his craft was evident in his perfectionism and attention to detail, traits that also benefited many of his family and friends.
In 1959, Marv married Diana Pauley, and together they welcomed three children: Julee, Michael, and Larry. In 1986, he was united in marriage to Bette Jean (Bainbridge) Berding, graciously welcoming her five children: Beth, Alan, Susan, Jill, and Lynn, into his life.
Throughout his life, Marv was always on the go, embracing hobbies that brought him joy, such as bowling, playing pool, golfing, and riding motorcycles—often reminiscing about his trips to Sturgis. A passionate sports enthusiast, he was particularly proud of his support for Heelan Sports.
Marv was deeply committed to his community and faith. He was a devoted member of Mater Dei Parish - Immaculate Conception Church, where he served actively. Additionally, he was a distinguished fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and made significant contributions to the Moose Lodge, earning the Honorary Moose of the Year award in 2006.
Marv's warmth, sense of tradition, and family values resonated throughout his life. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father, and a proud grandfather, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew him.
Marv's legacy is celebrated through his children: Julee (Kent) Gatzemeyer, Michael (Shae) Still, and Larry (Echo) Still; stepchildren: Beth (Larry) Weatherly, Alan (Janet) Berding, Susan (Darrell) Krewson, Jill (Dennis) Thompson, and Lynn (Sean) Cusick; thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Audrey (Wally) Kent, and one sister-in-law, Jean Still, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nelly Hawn; his wife, Bette Jean Still; and nine siblings: Gladys (Jay) Bower, Doris (Garth) Lacey, Everett (Doris) Still, Glen (Phyllis) Still, Lila (LeRoy) Burk, June (Dale) Grieve, Howard (Irene) Still, Raymond Still, and Ronald Still.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mater Dei Parish - Immaculate Conception Church in Sioux City, which will include a Rosary at 4:00 PM and Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day, Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM, also at Mater Dei Parish - Immaculate Conception Church. Following the service, there will be a luncheon and time of fellowship in the Parish Hall. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Mater Dei Parish or Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
