Martin "Marty" L. Marino

Martin Lynn “Marty” Marino, 68 of McCook Lake, South Dakota passed away August 17, 2024. Abiding by his wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Marty was born the son of Joseph and Iva Wauneta (Cook) Marino on January 3, 1956 in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from East High School in 1974 and completed his schooling at WIT.

Marty was a master craftsman. His work took him all across the United States working for major construction companies. He was especially proud of his work building retail stores, especially Disney Stores, and his work in Major League Baseball Stadiums. He retired from Shawmut Design and Construction in 2018 to enjoy time at his homes. He loved spending his winters in Louisiana with Beth and his longtime friends.

Marty loved to help people. If anyone needed help with a project, advice, or a tool, Marty was there. He liked to keep busy working on anything with a motor, especially his cars and hot rods, doing welding projects, and remodeling projects to make his homes perfect. He loved fishing in Louisiana and across the Gulf, working on his fishing rods, and making hand-tied flies. He loved being a fun dad making memories with his daughter, bonus children and grandchildren.

Known for his long ponytail and kind heart, he always said, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

Marty is survived by his longtime partner, Beth Thiele of McCook Lake, SD; daughter, Kara (Michael) Gibson of Lakeville, MN; bonus children, Nicole (Todd) Zoerink of Sioux Falls, SD, Gabriel (LeAnn) Wilch of Ellington, CT, and Ryan (Mary) Wilch of Duluth, MN; 8 grandchildren, Peyton, Reven, Cade, Nash, Gabriel, Hadley Mae, Everett, and Eddison; sisters, Mary Marino and Joedy Adams; and dear friends, Roberta Thiele, Butch and Judy, Mike, Tripp, Beau, and Dave.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
