Marlene Dee Fowler, 80 of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at a local hospital.  Funeral Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Jon Buck, Sunnybrook Community Church, officiating.  Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at the funeral home, with refreshments and fellowship to follow in the social hall.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com

Marlene was born on July 4, 1943, in Durham, North Carolina to Leo and Cathryn (Gram) Martin.  She received her education in the South Sioux City, Nebraska Public Schools.   Marlene married Charles L. “Chuck” Fowler on February 16, 1963, in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Marlene, a mother of five, dedicated her life to her family, embodying the true essence of a devoted and nurturing stay-at-home mom. She found pleasure in family gatherings and game nights, where she enjoyed the shared moments of joy and connection.

She was never afraid to try different foods. In fact, she had a genuine love for food. Marlene also had a fondness for counting money. Her love for financial details reflected a practical and thoughtful approach to life. 

A partner in love and life, Marlene enjoyed long drives around town with her beloved Charles. These drives were a source of togetherness allowing them to spend time creating lasting memories.

Marlene is survived by her children Steven Fowler of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Terry (Monica) Fowler of Homer, Nebraska, Pam (Bryon) Oines of Sioux City, Iowa, and Kathy (Troy) Hummel of Pinellas Park, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters Carlene (Jack) Lawrence of Minnesota and Linda (Mark) Ferner of Urbandale, Iowa.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chuck on January 13, 2022, and son Danny Fowler.
