Obituary

Marla J. Polly, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at home with her loving family on September 15, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. Marla was born on November 6, 1945, in Le Mars, Iowa, to Kenneth and Irene (Casper) Beck of Hinton, Iowa.

Services will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Reverend James Travis officiating. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service, and the burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marla was a proud graduate of the Hinton High School class of 1963 and the Western Iowa Tech class of 1981. She worked at Interbake Foods until her well-earned retirement in 2005.

Marla's life was a testament to resilience and strength. Marla’s character was a blend of independence, toughness, and tenderness. She believed firmly in giving her best effort in every endeavor (“If you are going to do it, then do it right”). Marla was divorced, and despite the challenges she faced as a single mom, she remained strong for “her girls, " teaching them the importance of family, unconditional love, and the value of hard work all lessons her family is grateful for.

An avid reader, Marla was always immersed in a book and planning with her daughter Amanda what book they would read next. She was also a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and KC Chiefs and enjoyed her trips with Elizabeth and family to Arrowhead; they will not be the same without her.

Marla was a proud Missouri Synod Lutheran and a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Marla enjoyed attending Wednesday services and visiting with Pastor Travis and Pastor Smith.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Leslie Polly and son-in-law Joshua Skelton; parents Kenneth and Irene; brother Kent Beck; sisters Gayle Burnett, Yvonne Beck, and Norene Goettsch; and brothers-in-law Bill Oldaker, Ed Fortner, and Ed Goettsch. She was also preceded in death by her beloved dogs, Keggie and Gabe.

Marla is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Mitchell) Boone and Amanda Polly (Sean Chesher), as well as her grandchildren Andrew Polly, Joseph Hanson, Spencer Boone, Sidney Hanson, and Emmersen Hanson; granddog Molly Boone; sisters Bonnie Oldaker and Kay Fortner; and her brother-in-law Don Burnett.
