Marilyn J. Schoenherr

July 18, 1932 — January 4, 2023

Marilyn J. Schoenherr, 90 of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023.  Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Holy Cross Parish – St. Michael Church.  Visitation will be Friday, January 6, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa.  

Marilyn was born the daughter of Horace and Martha (Schmidt) Dugan on July 18, 1932 in South Sioux City, Nebraska.  She moved to Sioux City as a child and spent a lot of time with her cousins growing up.  She attended school in Jackson, NE, South Sioux City, NE, and Sioux City.  She married Gerald J. “Babe” Schoenherr on January 20, 1950 in Sioux City.  The couple farmed in the Mapleton area until moving to a farm north of Leeds in 1955.  They became members of St. Michael Catholic Church.  She enjoyed the activities of the church and was a member of the altar society where she was a past president.

The time she spent with her family brought her great joy.  She enjoyed birthdays and holidays spent with them, especially Christmas.  She liked traveling, shopping, and rummage sales.

Survivors include a son, Steven Schoenherr and his wife Robbi of Hinton, IA; 2 daughters, Jeanette Casper and her husband Doug of Hinton, IA, and Brenda Thelen and her husband Barry of Sioux City; brother, Mike Dugan; 7 grandchildren, Mike Casper, Mary Ryan and her husband Chris, Stacy Peterson and her husband Todd, Nick Schoenherr and his wife Stacy, Jeremiah Schoenherr and his wife Mindy, James Thelen and special friend Rochelle Reinke, and Thomas Thelen and his wife Angela; 13 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Babe; and great-grandson, Cole.
