Marilyn E. Laing

April 15, 1941 — July 30, 2025

Marilyn E. Laing, 84 of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025. A Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Nativity Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Marilyn was born the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Wachman) Niehoff on April 15,1941 on the family farm in Melrose, MN. She married Richard L. Laing on February 16, 1963. They enjoyed 62 years together. Marilyn worked in the office of Nativity Church for 25 years where she was also a longtime member and active in The Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

In her younger years, Marilyn enjoyed playing golf at the Southern Hills Country Club and Whispering Creek, she retired as the family leader in hole in one’s with 2! She played cards twice a week with her friends and was known for her baking, especially sweets and her infectious laugh. She liked to travel to spend time with family and watch her grandchildren’s sporting events. Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She touched all who knew her and had a remarkable ability to find joy in life’s simple moments.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Richard Laing of Sioux City; children, Tom (Betsy) Laing of Carroll, IA, Dee Dee Watkins of Sioux City, IA, Tim (Leah) Laing of Olathe, KS, and Molli (Tony) Ginger of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Tyler, Alex, Zach, Brady, Addy, Jonas, Reagan, Kellan, Sophie, Jack, Carter, and Kaylin; sister, Joanne Wolf; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret; grandson, Matt Laing; Siblings, Tom Niehoff, Gary Niehoff, and Janet Galloway; and son-in-law, Guy Watkins.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Bickford Assisted Living who loved and cared for Marilyn in her final days.
