Marian Louise Hayes

South Sioux City, Nebraska

 

Marian Louise Hayes, 84 of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at a local hospital comforted by her loving family.  A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior.  The family requests, out of respect to Marian’s favorite color, please wear purple to the Celebration!

Marian was born on November 4, 1938 in Homer, Nebraska to Elmer and Karen (Jensen) Georgesen.  She graduated from Homer High School with the Class of 1956 and continued her education with a Degree from Wayne College in 1968.  During her youth, Marian was raised in rural Homer, lived in Creighton, and moved to South Sioux City in 1969. 

Marian married Gary LeRoy Hayes on May 12, 1972 in Sioux City, to this union, two children were born, daughter Sherri and son Gary, Jr.  Marian was a teacher, having spent 6 years in Walthill Public Schools, two years at District School, 5 years in Creighton, and eventually settling in South Sioux City, where she enjoyed 29 years of teaching in the public school.  She was a member of the P.T.A., NSEA, and proud member of 1st Lutheran Church in South Sioux City.

Marian is survived by her husband Gary; daughter Sherri (Denny) DeMey of Denison, Iowa; son Gary (Linda) Hayes, Jr. of Magnolia, Texas; sister Maxine Georgesen; brother Boyd (Janean) Georgesen; numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of which she loved dearly.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, nephew Bill Miller, sister Kathy Kontoes, and brothers-in-law Earl Miller and Art Kontoes.

Marian was followed in death on Friday, August 18th by her sister Dorothy Miller.  God Bless these ladies and those left to cherish their memories.
