In Loving Memory of Margaret Ann (Peggie) Schroeder

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Ann (Peggie) Schroeder, who left us on April 13, 2025, at the age of 89. Peggie was a devoted mother, a cherished friend, and a beacon of kindness and strength to all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2025 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Father Michael Keating as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery of South Sioux City. Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary Service, followed by the visitation prior to the Mass, all at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1315 1st Ave, South Sioux City, Nebraska 68776 in Peggie’s memory, to continue her legacy of compassion and generosity. Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on February 2, 1936, in Ponca, Nebraska, Peggie was the third of nine children of Harold and Mary Smith. She graduated from Ponca Senior High School with the Class of 1953 and was proud to attend her 70th class reunion in 2023.

On August 31, 1956, she married Roger Schroeder, and together they raised five sons in South Sioux City, Nebraska. All five boys attended St. Michael’s Catholic School and South Sioux City High School, a testament to the family’s deep roots in both education and faith.

Peggie’s commitment to her church was unwavering. She served on the school board at St. Michael’s Parish and was always ready to lend a hand—whether it was making desserts and salads for events or simply offering her time and energy. Her warmth and joyful spirit brought light to every gathering.

Throughout her life, Peggie demonstrated incredible dedication and work ethic, excelling in her career as a secretary for several insurance companies, including A.M. Davis Insurance in Sioux City and Travelers Insurance in California. Often working two jobs, she was tireless in her efforts to support her family.

Above all, Peggie found her greatest joy in her family. Time spent with her children and grandchildren—and especially with her siblings—was what she treasured most. She loved Smith family reunions, never missing a chance to play Pitch, catch up with her siblings, nieces and nephews, and proudly show off her branch in Husker Red for the big family photos.

Peggie is survived by her sons Ronald (Tammy) of Lincoln, NE; Richard (Miranda) of Hinton, IA; and Randall (Heather) of Neola, IA; brothers Butch (Pat) Smith and Jack (Jeanne) Smith, sister Doris (Alan) Knutson; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and nearly 50 nieces and nephews who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mary Smith; her husband, Roger; sons Robert and Russell; and siblings Harold Eugene Smith, Cecil Robert Smith, Harold Ronold Smith, Mary Judie Wisnieski and Susan (Bill) Church.

Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Peggie’s extraordinary life, sharing stories and memories of the times spent together.

Peggie will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace.
