Obituary

Margaret Hannah Neely, 86, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Tim Squire officiating. Visitation with the family will be Friday, August 21, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Margaret was born March 7, 1940, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer John and Hannah Margaret (Mammen) Tucker. She graduated from Central High School in 1958. Margaret married Darrell L. Neely on February 27, 1959, in Sioux City. To this union, two children were born. Darrell preceded her in death on May 26, 2004.

Margaret dedicated 31 years to the Sioux City Community School District as a food service manager, running the kitchens at various schools throughout her career before retiring. She took great pride in her work and the many students she served along the way.

Margaret was an active and faithful member of Riverside Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed quilting for charity and sharing her time and talents with others. She also cherished the friendships she made through her card group and looked forward to their regular rounds of cards. Margaret will be remembered for her caring heart, her generous spirit, and the love she had for her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Larry and wife Sharon Neely of Mt. Pleasant, TX; daughter, Kathryn and husband Marvin Dethlefs of Sioux City; and grandchildren, Henry Dethlefs of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Alicia Neely and Anastasia Neely, both of Dallas, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Hannah Tucker; her husband, Darrell; brothers, Arnold, Merlin, and Eldon; and sisters, Elnora and Mersella.

Margaret’s love, kindness, and devotion to her family will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
