Lorrie R. Shilling, 55, of South Sioux City, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A social hour will follow at One Eyed Jack’s, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Lorrie’s life.

Lorrie’s Celebration of Life is being held soon after her passing in order to honor one of her final and most selfless wishes, the donation of her body to science. Even after her own battle with cancer came to an end, Lorrie wanted the opportunity to help others. Through her donation, she hoped to contribute to the advancement of cancer research and medical education, helping doctors better understand and treat the disease and, ultimately, helping future patients and families facing battles of their own. It is a final gift that reflects the impact she hoped to leave behind.

Lorrie was born May 2, 1971, the daughter of Bill Shilling and Betty Irving. She graduated from South Sioux City High School where she made many life-long friendships, and soon after began one of the most important roles of her life, being a mother.

Lorrie raised her two children, Seth and Cheyanne, while building a life centered around her family and the people she loved. She was hardworking, independent, and deeply devoted to those closest to her. She spent many years working at The Attic, where the women she worked alongside became much more than coworkers. Most recently, Lorrie worked for GXO, where she had been employed for more than ten years. During that time, she again built many friendships and connections with those around her.

Outside of work, Lorrie was happiest enjoying the simple things in life. She loved being outdoors, especially tending to her flower beds. She enjoyed riding both motorcycles and bicycles, and when she wasn’t outside, she loved settling in with a good book.

Above all, Lorrie loved her family. She was a daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by the people fortunate enough to know and love her. Her grandchildren held an especially important place in her heart, and the memories they shared with their grandma will continue to be treasured.

Lorrie faced cancer with tremendous courage for 5 ½ years. Through the difficult days, she was surrounded by the family who loved her, and that love remained with her through the end of her journey.

She is survived by her parents, Bill Shilling and Betty Irving; her children, Seth Simon and Cheyanne (Tyrone) Jackson; her sister, Sara (Dustin) Thill; her brother, Jason (Angie) Shilling; and her grandchildren, Jehmiah, Eisley, Nevaeh, and Blaize; along with many extended family members, friends, coworkers, and others whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Dale Irving.

Though 55 years was far too short, Lorrie leaves behind a lifetime of memories with the family she raised, the friendships she built, and the people who loved her. And through her final gift to science, her legacy will continue in the pursuit of knowledge and hope for those who will face cancer after her.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
