Lorna J. Mayo

June 14, 1931 — October 19, 2022

   Lorna J. (Smith) Mayo, 91, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at her home with her family by her side.

   Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City with Rev. Kristy May officiating. Burial will follow at Logan Park Cemetery. There will be a luncheon celebration of life at Faith Lutheran Church immediately after the burial. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 25, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

   Lorna was born June 14, 1931 to Thomas H. and C. Myrle (Heiner) Smith in Sioux City. She was a life-long Sioux City resident and loved Sioux City with all of her heart.

   She married James “Jim” Mayo on August 19, 1950 in South Sioux City, NE. Lorna was a homemaker and kept busy raising their six children. She also helped raise and positively influence two granddaughters. James passed away on September 28, 2006.

   Lorna enjoyed reading, bingo, crocheting, music, and plays. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1982 and the TOPS Club. She had a special way of showing her love and cherished spending time with her family and friends.

   She is survived by her six children: Dennis Mayo of Sioux City; Darrell (Isabelle) Mayo of Sioux City; James Michael (Nadine) Mayo of Minneapolis, MN; John (Karla) Mayo of Sioux City; Laurie (Jay) Johnson of Burbank, SD; and David Mayo of Sioux City; nine grandchildren: Theresa Turner, Jennifer (Don) Collins, Melissa (Willie) Steele, Darrell Joseph Mayo, Jeremy (Courtney) Mayo, Marcia Mayo, Alicia (Noah) Snyder, Kenneth Mayo, and Stacy (Fred) Johnson-Castillo; eighteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Roseann Mayo of Sioux City; and several nephews and special nieces.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and four sisters.

   Pallbearers are Darrell Joseph Mayo, Jeremy Mayo, Kenneth Mayo, Willie Steele, Noah Snyder, and Eric Steele. Honorary pallbearers are Collin and Reid Mayo, Henry and Andrew Snyder and Fred and Logan Castillo.
