Lois Earlene Adams, age 90, of Waterbury passed away on October 5th at Sanford Care Facility in Vermillion, South Dakota, surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held Friday October 9, 2026, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE at 10:30 AM with a visitation beginning at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Allen, Nebraska.
Lois was born May 4, 1936, in Allen, Nebraska, to Albert Adams and Ione (Horn) Adams. She was raised on a farm near Waterbury, Nebraska, and attended a country school before graduating from Waterbury High School in 1955. She continued her education at Wayne State College, where she earned her teaching degree.
Lois began her career teaching rural school for six years in the surrounding area. She often joked that teaching wasn’t her life calling.
Lois was the proud mother of three daughters, Brenda, Lynnda, and Kimberly. Her girls were always at the center of her life. She devoted herself to raising them and taught them the importance of hard work, determination, independence, and being strong women. Her love and determination helped her overcome many hardships and build a brighter future for her family.
While raising her daughters, Lois continued her education through the local community college, taking classes in Business Law, Real Estate, Communications, Computer Science, and Accounting I & II. She went on to work for more than 25 years at Western Contracting and later worked for Woodbury County.
The family farm, which she purchased in 1995, always held a special place in Lois’s heart. During her retirement years, she enjoyed planting trees and flowers and caring for the land. Over the years, the farm was home to horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and geese. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and gardening.
Above all, Lois loved her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her tremendous joy, and she treasured the holidays, birthdays, and special occasions that brought everyone together.
Lois will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Brenda (Steve) Stewart and their children Brooke (Mitch) Lewon and Megan (Mark) Wortmann; Lynnda (Steve) Kramper and their children Calvin Kramper, Corey Kramper, and Sierra (Corey) Parry; and Kimberly (Wilson Johnson) and her children Wesley (Mariah) Johnson and Michael Johnson.
She also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren: Heidi, Lane, Halley, Jackson, Shawn, Tyler, Kamdyn, Layton, Hudson, Alaina, Oliver, Everlee, Sawyer, Sloan, Violet, and Rex; her siblings Roger Adams, Margie Stark, and Barbara Strivens; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ione Adams, and her siblings Beverly, Joyce, Bernice, Leona, Richard, Rayme, and Linda.
Lois lived a long and full life defined by hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering love for her family. The strength she carried throughout her 90 years lives on in the daughters she raised and in the generations that followed. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
