Lloyd was born on July 25, 1943 in Sioux City, Iowa to Lloyd E. and Norma J. (Conklin) Barker. Raised in South Sioux City included riding his horse, enjoying numerous cars as a teenager (including his favorite 1952 blue Ford pickup), Lloyd graduated from South Sioux City Public Schools with the Class of 1962. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Radar Operator aboard aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CVA63) in the Pacific Theatre. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1966, Lloyd returned to South Sioux City and married Jeralyn “Judy” Nixon on October 15, 1966 at the United Methodist Church in Dakota City, Nebraska. He worked at Wincharger from 1966 until 1968, and started his career at the United Parcel Service (UPS) in 1968 until 1989 as a driver/customer service manager. Lloyd continued to work after leaving UPS as a truck driver from 1989 until his retirement in 2012. He could also be found working part-time at Walmart as an automotive customer service representative until his retirement.
Lloyd enjoyed time with family and friends, old western movies and music (real country music), hats of all kinds: western, dress, caps, bucket, along with walking canes and nice pens and writing instruments. He is a past member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Sioux City, where he served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, AWANA leader, and Sunday school van driver. Lloyd enjoyed his memberships and friendships established at the American Legion Post 307, and the VFW Post 10753. Lloyd loved his family and tried his best to always be there for them. He enjoyed attending their school and sporting events. If there was a problem or project, Lloyd was there to try and help you solve it.
