Linda Lou Kennedy, 75, of Hinton, IA passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, at her residence following a battle with brain cancer.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) in Sioux City. No visitation is planned. Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship at Blackhawk Coffee Company (1111 Starview Dr.) in Hinton.

Linda Lou, the daughter of Leon and Carol (Sardeson) Cunningham, was born September 19, 1948, in Sioux City. Linda was raised and attended school in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. Following high school, she started her longtime career with AT&T. She worked for 30+ years with the telephone company and remained with them through several mergers and acquisitions. She started with the company in Sioux City and later was transferred to Denver, CO where she retired from US West. After retiring, she moved back to the Siouxland area and took on the role of helping with tax preparation which led her to opening Kennedy Tax Services on Floyd Blvd. in Sioux City.

Linda was united in marriage to George Japper Kennedy in Elk Point, SD and this union was blessed with one daughter, Shannon. Japper passed away on September 15, 1979.

Linda’s hobbies included reading, her love of animals especially her cats, and in younger years coaching women’s and youth softball. In addition, she also volunteered for the Junior Achievement Program, served in various positions on the Board of Directors at Telco Triad for 20+ years, and was very involved with the Kirby Club (teaching children about saving money).

She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Kennedy-Heckler of Hinton; two brothers: Jim (Holly) Cunningham of Sioux City and Pat Cunningham of Sioux City; one sister, Joline Goosmann of Hinton; two sisters-in-law: Rita Cunningham of Sioux City and Lisa Bardsley of Kansas City, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers: Steve Cunningham and Robert Bardsley; one sister, Stacy (Mel) Beccard; and brother-in-law, Mike Goosmann.
