Leslie William "Bill" Carey

  Leslie “Bill” Carey, 54, of South Sioux City passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 at his residence. Per his wishes, Bill will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

  Bill was born on February 16, 1969 in Sioux City. He graduated from South Sioux City High School.

  Bill worked for Mid-Step Services for over 20 years. He attended Sunnybrook Church in Sioux City, and was involved with Heartland Counseling Services and their Life Center.

  He was a proud ally, advocate, and supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. Bill was the life of the party. He could always be found cracking jokes and pulling pranks on his family and friends—out of love, of course.

  He is survived by his sister, Pamela Carey of Sioux City; nieces: Amie Bravo-Lopez (Marcos) of Sioux City and Katie Germek of Sioux City; brother-in-law, Richard Germek of South Sioux City; several great-nieces and great-nephews; cousin, Juliee Bishop of Sioux City; and his friends that he considered to be family: Rosalind “Roz” Gill of South Sioux City, Kevin Martin of Sioux City, Chad Garst-Baldridg of West Des Moines, IA, and Jimmy Cole of Dakota City.

  He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Carey; uncle, Calvin Underwood; and grandmother, Stella Underwood.
