  Leonard E. “Cowboy” Walker, 79, of South Sioux City passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 at a care facility in Cherokee, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

  Leonard was born on March 22, 1944 in Kansas City, Kansas, to Nelson and Senora (Moore) Walker. He grew up in Kansas City, and following high school joined the United States Navy where he served from 1961 to 1965. He lived in various cities until moving to South Sioux City in 1985.

  On September 2, 1988, he married Kimberly Petersen in Elk Point, South Dakota.

  Leonard worked for over 20 years in maintenance for Tyson Foods, retiring in 2006. He also worked security for the Thurston County Fair for several years.

  In his free time, he enjoyed cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and fishing.

  Survivors include his wife, Kim of South Sioux City; children: Leonard Muhammad (Tamiko) of Chicago, IL, LaKeshia Drabing (Michael) of South Sioux City, Whitney Holmes (Derrick) of Sioux City, and Jordan Walker (Le’Ambra) of Sioux City; honorary daughters: Kara and Crystal; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including many additional grandchildren he claimed as his own; several nieces and nephews; a close nephew, Vernon Walker; and his lifelong road dogs: Jerry and Walter.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Margaret and Dorothy; and a brother, Jewell “Ruffy”.
