Leonard M. Stimson

Leonard M. Stimson, 71, of South Sioux City, NE, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, IA. Memorial services will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, IA. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., following the service. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the Odebolt Specialty Care – physical therapy department. Leonard was born June 2, 1951, to Marvin and Mabel (Leonard) Stimson in Sioux City. He graduated from Pender Highschool in 1970 where he participated in sports by refereeing and coaching. Leonard married the love of his life Alice “Sally” Stoner on May 1, 1987, in Dakota City, NE. They made their home in South Sioux City. His love of wide-open spaces led him to a career in trucking, which he did until his retirement in 2014. He remained in close contact with many of his trucking friends and coworkers. Many of his friends knew Leonard as “HD” Heavy Duty. Leonard especially loved traveling to Montana and Idaho. You could always find Leonard cheering on his favorite teams the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs and watching Nascar Races. He always enjoyed reading books, grilling, and using his smoker to prepare food and riding his Trikes (ATV’s). Especially since his retirement, Leonard enjoyed meeting a special group of friends for breakfast on Saturdays. He’ll truly be missed by his family and friends. 

Leonard is survived by his three siblings: Gwedolyn Krutz, Barbara (Marty) Munic, Michael Stimson, sister-in-law Kathy Traufler, five nieces: Lisa, Tracy, Dawn, Trisha, Sophia, great nieces and nephews: Bonnie, Maggie, Natalie, Abigail, Wesley, Preston, and one great-great nephew, Desmond.

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice “Sally”, parents, Marvin and Mabel, and one sister, Marilyn.
