July 4, 1923 – June 12, 2026
Leah (Steinhoff) Shearon passed Friday, June 12, 2026 in Sioux City, Iowa. A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Leah was born July 4, 1923 to Casper and Amanda (Weber) Steinhoff at their home in Smithland, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at The Little Church on the Hill in Smithland, Iowa. She graduated from Smithland High School and the Samuels School of Cosmetology and practiced part time for 56 years.
One of her favorite stories is that her father used to buy the biggest and loudest firecracker. He would set it off under her bedroom window. Everyone within hearing distance knew it was the Fourth of July and Leah’s birthday.
She married Donald Shearon on February 3, 1944 in San Diego, California. They had three children, Donna, Joleen, and Brian.
Leah was a member of the Wesley Methodist Church, volunteered at St. Luke’s Medical Center, the Sioux City Soup Kitchen, and was a member of St. Luke’s Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Sioux City Women’s and Adventurers Clubs. She was active in the Girl and Boy Scouts of America. Leah was a ten-gallon blood donor for which she was praised for helping other people. She loved golf and bowling and held offices in both organizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don, January 1977 and daughter Jody, April 2015. Survivors include a son, Brian and daughter Donna, both of Sioux City, Iowa; a grandson, Brent of Wisconsin along with his wife and three great-grandchildren.
