Lawrence Rowenhorst

   Lawrence Rowenhorst, 84, of Sioux City, IA passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at his residence.

   Private services will be held. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

   Lawrence, the son of Lawrence and Johanna (Duistemars) Rowenhorst, was born December 8, 1938 in Orange City, IA. He grew up on a farm near Orange City and attended Newkirk School. After high school, Lawrence started working at Swift Packing Company in Sioux City.

   Lawrence was united in marriage to Elaine Thorson on September 22, 1959 in Sioux Falls, SD and this union was blessed with two children. The family made their home in Sioux City and Lawrence worked as a police officer for the City of Sioux City for twenty-two years until his retirement.

   Throughout the years, some of Lawrence’s hobbies included: fishing, boating, collecting antique toy tractors, and mowing his yard. He truly enjoyed and looked forward to having coffee with his dear friends, Ron Schultz and Jim Nixon. Lawrence was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City.

   He is survived by his daughter, Laurie (Danny) Tipton of TN; his son, Corby (Sharon) Rowenhorst of TN; three granddaughters: Kirsten Shrader, Raini Rowenhorst (Gage Armstrong), and Makay Rowenhorst; two great grandchildren: Whitney and Justus Shrader; two sisters: Lois DeHaan and Carolyn Jonker; and other relatives and friends.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine on September 30, 2014; and one brother, Cliff Rowenhorst.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Calvary Lutheran Church, 4400 Central St. Sioux City, IA 51108.
