  Lawrence Lennon “Larry” Deaton, 67, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at his son Jason’s home in Sioux City, following complications of esophageal cancer. Per his wishes, private family services will be held.

  Larry was born on August 26, 1956 in Sioux City, to Jack and Sally (Lennon) Deaton. He attended Blessed Sacrament school and graduated from Bishop Heelan in 1975. He later graduated from Morningside College in 1982. On May 20, 1978, he married Beth Coburn in Luverne, Minnesota. To this union a son, Jason Deaton, was born. They lived in Sioux City until 1987, at which time they moved to Mapleton and remained throughout Larry’s life.

  Larry worked for several years at the Sioux City Stockyards, Bomgaars, IBP, and Tyson Foods, Tool Depot, and most recently worked at GardaWorld Security. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, listening to music and playing guitar, and tinkering in his garage.

  He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beth Deaton; son, Jason Deaton; brothers: Greg Deaton and Jon Deaton (Barb); sisters-in-law: Pat Crownover, and Jo Kledis (Jim); brother-in-law, Jay Coburn (Cristy); aunt, Eileen Prochelo (Charlie); uncle, Bob Lennon; aunt, Kathy Lennon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Sally Deaton; sister, Maureen Deaton Hughes; sister-in-law, Peggy Deaton; parents-in-law, Rev. Virgil and Marjorie Coburn; uncle, Mike Lennon; uncle, Dick Lennon; and aunt, Dee Lennon.

  Beth would like to extend a special thanks to their son, Jason, for taking such wonderful care of Larry for the past year.
