Lavonne Marie Majeres, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 87. Born on March 24, 1938, in Doon, IA, Lavonne was the daughter of Gottlob and Eite Bernice (Lienemann) Nagel. She grew up on a farm near Doon and graduated from Doon High School. After graduating, she moved to Sioux City with her sister.
Lavonne led a fulfilling professional life, dedicating many years as a bookkeeper for several grain elevator companies, including O'Neill Elevator, Scoular Company, Louis Dreyfus, and ADM Grain.
Lavonne was not only dedicated to her work but also to her family, which she cherished above all else. She was united in marriage to Ronald Bruning on February 11, 1958, in Sioux City, and their union was blessed with four children. Ronald passed away in 1979, but Lavonne found love again and married Donald Majeres on September 26, 1987.
Lavonne enjoyed a variety of hobbies that enriched her life. She had a passion for bowling that spanned over 65 years, during which she served as the director of the Greater Siouxland USBC in the 1980s. Other interests included playing cribbage, sewing, crafts, knitting, crocheting, and making memories on fishing trips.
Those who knew Lavonne admired her respectful, patient, and kind nature. She faced life's challenges without complaint, earning the love and respect of everyone around her.
Family was the cornerstone of Lavonne's life, and she took immense pride in her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her four children: Cindy Vaul, Sandy Bruning (Dan Rhymer), Randy Bruning, and Billie Rosenbaum (Rob); nine grandchildren: Bill, Tim, Chrissy, Luis, Amanda, Tasha, Jordan, Taylor, Tanner, and Katie; 17 great-grandchildren; along with 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Lavonne is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, Ronald Bruning and Donald Majeres; a brother, Leonard Nagel; a sister, Irene Helder (Roger); a son-in-law, William "Bud" Vaul; a granddaughter, Peggy; and a great-grandson, Miles.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, located at 6200 Morningside Ave, Sioux City, IA. A funeral service will follow on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10:30 AM, at the same location.
Lavonne Majeres will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
