LaVonne F. Elmore, 90, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at her residence. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Mohr & Becker Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
LaVonne was born October 11, 1933 in Sioux City, the daughter of Joseph and Mabel (Tate) Cotter. She attended Heelan High School.
She married Ernest H. Elmore, and to this union two children were born. LaVonne remained a single working parent throughout her adult life. Her career spanned 31 years for the Bell Telephone Company. She retired in 1990 and continued on to have jobs with the billing department of Mercy Medical Center, a secretary for Corbit & Corbit attorneys, and lastly a receptionist for the Tyson Event Center, where she officially retired in 2007.
She was an active member of her church, St. Joseph Catholic Church, and played the organ there for several years. LaVonne was an avid reader of romance novels and sharing them with her many friends. She was a gracious hostess of numerous Halloween and Christmas parties. She loved to entertain her family and friends, as well as doting on her two cats: Shady and Tiger.
Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Head and her family: Ryan (Amanda), Leah (Kevin), Larissa (Kyle), and Kylie (Chris), great-grandchildren: Harper, Aubrey, Liam, Luke, Nora, and Molly; her son, Joseph and extended family, Melany and Brian Hilton with children: Aaron (Tarah) and Kaylee (Bradon). Jeremy and Nicole Kratke with children: Justina (Ashton, Brylee, and Elle), Joslyn (Peyton) with children: Easton and Paisley, and Jalysa (Bentley); niece, Lori Martin, her son John John (Brittaney) and their son Easton; niece, Brenda Asher, son Brandon, daughter Cassie (Kinsley); nephew, Randy and Cleo Asher with their children: Aaron (Chelsea), children: (Kolton, Alivia), Brock (Kylie) and their child Avaiah; nephew, Tim and Kelli Asher with their children: Ryan (Katie), Jordan (Connor) and their children: (Casey and Colbie).
LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mabel Cotter; a sister, Marion Asher and her husband Jack; and a son-in-law, Barry Head.
LaVonne's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, especially the E.R. and Hospice departments, for their unwavering care of LaVonne.
