LaVern L. Schroeder

LaVern L. Schroeder, 82, of McCook Lake, SD died Saturday, February 11, 2023. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City.  Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday with a vigil service at 7 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery.  

Vern was born December 24, 1940 in Newcastle, Nebraska.  He was the son of LeVere and Dalores (Redl) Schroeder and was raised in Sioux City where he graduated from Central High School. On August 18, 1962 he married Sharlene C. Miller in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City where they raised 3 children, Kelly, Karole and Joey.

Vern, along with his wife, became co-owners of Budget Motors, Inc.  Prior to that, he worked for the Sioux City Fire Department and did carpentry for 25 years.  He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Vern loved spending time with his grandkids.  He enjoyed the lake and vacationing with family.  He also enjoyed playing golf and fishing.

Survivors include a daughter, Karole Fowler and her husband, Rusty of Sioux City, son, Joey Schroeder and his wife, Marcy of McCook Lake, SD; daughter-in-law, Donna Steward and her husband, Tony of Sioux City; siblings, Orline Herbst and her husband, Gary and Lee Schroeder and his wife, Robin; 6 grandchildren, Nicholas Fowler, Cody Fowler, Bryce Schroeder, Brady Schroeder, Briley Schroeder and Myah Stubblefield and her husband, David; 4 great-grandchildren, Carson Fowler, Korbyn Fowler, and Samson and Stella Stubblefield; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shar, and son, Kelly.

Memorials may be made in his name to Pioneer Valley Living and Rehab Center in Sergeant Bluff in recognition of their wonderful care.
