Larry Lee Salmon, born on December 11, 1947, in Sheldon, IA, passed away at his home in Sioux City, IA, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the age of 77, following a long and hard battle with cancer. The son of Lawrence and Johanna (Bosman) Salmon, Larry was raised in Boyden, IA, where he graduated from Boyden-Hull High School. He served with honor in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, completing four tours between 1967 and 1975. His military service fostered a deep sense of patriotism that was evident throughout his life, particularly during his active participation with the Legion Riders from Le Mars, IA.
Larry’s professional journey was marked by a long and dedicated career in the construction industry, a field where he made lasting contributions. He was not only respected for his work ethic but also cherished for his engaging personality. Those who knew Larry would often describe him as funny, a jokester, and a big storyteller bringing joy and laughter to the lives of others.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Larry pursued his passions in various hobbies, enjoying riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards, and cribbage. He was a deeply spiritual individual and a devoted follower of Christ, which resonated throughout his life.
In his personal life, Larry was married to the love of his life, Tracy Lynn Graser, on February 9, 1985. Together, they cultivated a loving family environment, raising four children: Christopher (wife Marcy) Salmon of Covington, GA; Andrew (wife Bonnie) Graser of Sioux City, IA; Stephanie (special friend Dee) Alfredson of Winter Haven, FL; and Jessica (husband Eric) Preston of Sioux City, IA. Larry’s pride in his family extended to his ten grandchildren: Cassie, Antonio, Annika, C.J., Lyli, Johnathan, Audri, Aaron, Izzy, and Asher, as well as his two great-grandchildren, GaKoby and Loki. He found immense joy in their milestones and achievements. In addition, he is survived by four siblings and their families: Mary Ellen (husband Pete) Attema of Le Mars, IA; Patricia (husband Jerry) Harms of Spirit Lake, IA; Glenda Salmon of Mountain Home, AR; and Tom Salmon of Spirit Lake, IA. Larry will missed by many great friends, including his best friend and father-in-law, John Graser.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gene (wife Kathy) Salmon, as well as a niece, Paula Salmon; and his beautiful mother-in-law, Edie Graser.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, Iowa, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Military honors will be presented by the United States Navy and there will be an honor guard by the American Legion Riders.
