Larry E. Lantz, 77, of South Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Mercy Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Pastor Del Olivier will officiate.
Larry was born on May 21, 1947, in St. Paul, Nebraska, to Anna Marie (Jensen) and Bernard Lantz. A lifelong resident of South Sioux City, he graduated from South Sioux City High School and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving in the Vietnam War. He spent several years in the printing industry before beginning a 30-year career as a power house mechanic with MidAmerican Energy.
On June 30, 1972, he married Kathleen (Hunter) in Sioux City. Together, they built a life rooted in love, raising their son and creating a home filled with warmth and devotion. Larry had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed bowling leagues, golfing, and fishing with his grandsons. A natural green thumb, he could bring any plant back to life. He was also a regular at the casino in his free time and a loyal Nebraska Cornhusker fan who never missed a game. Above all, Larry cherished time with his family. He was known for his home-cooked meals and the way he brought everyone together around the table. His grandsons were his greatest joy. He never missed a single event, showing up proudly, rain or shine.
Left to carry on his memory are his son, Tyson Lantz (Marisol); grandchildren: Isaiah, Kaidyn, Donavin, and Kace; sister, Coleen Prenger; brother, Jeff Lantz (Carrie); brother-in-law, Tom Hunter (Deanna); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen Lantz; his parents; grandparents; in-laws; and a brother.
