Larry W. Kayl

Larry W. Kayl, 85 of South Sioux City passed away peacefully Monday, October 9, 2023. A memorial service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery.

Larry was born the son of Floyd and Dorothy (Virruso) Kayl on October 24, 1937 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He graduated from South Sioux City High School and then completed his schooling at Western Iowa Tech. Larry married Janet Pederson in 1960. To this union three children were born. They later divorced.

Larry worked at Gibson’s Home Appliance and then Standard Office until his retirement.

He was known as a sports nut. He enjoyed watching Nebraska college sporting events and South Sioux Girl’s Basketball. He had a real passion for metal detecting and gardening.

Larry was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran. He received recognition during his service for high marksmanship.

Larry is survived by his children, Steve (Lupe) Kayl, Teresa (Mike) Michelakakis, and Scott Kayl; siblings, Raymond Ross, Sharon Leach, and Betty (Denny) Harris; grandchildren, Paul, Jessica, and Frankie Kayl, Tristan Chasse, Rita Boucher, and John and Emmanuel Michelakakis; and great-grandchildren, Quintrell, LaVonte, Drayden, Ellie, Apollo, Luke John, Evanjelina, Meli, and Marina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, LaDonna, Rose, and Jeannie; and brother in infancy, Michael.
