Larry Dean Johnson, 80, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at his residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church with Father Tim Friedrichsen officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior at the church. Burial will be held later at Calvary Cemetery.
Larry was born on August 22, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Fred and Dorothy (Braun) Johnson.
Larry married his devoted wife, Patsy Claussen, on April 20, 1968, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. Together, they raised a loving family. He cherished the moments spent with them, often engaging in his favorite pastimes of fishing and camping.
A proud veteran, Larry served his country as he was drafted into the Iowa National Guard, 2nd Battalion, 133rd Infantry. His dedication carried over into his professional life, where he was a prominent member of Carpenters Local 948 for many years, representing the Carpenter Union with integrity. Larry was also an Eagle Scout and devoted much of his time as a Boy Scout Leader, fostering a love of the outdoors and leadership in the youth he mentored. In addition to these accomplishments, he was an active member of the Neighborhood Network and served as President of the Siouxland Rental Association. He took great care of his rental properties, reflecting his strong work ethic and commitment to his community.
Larry is survived by his wife Patsy Johnson; children: Christine Johnson of Illinois, and David Johnson of Sioux City. Larry's pride extended further to his grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Ashley (Austin) Gluesing, Aaron Johnson, Tyler Johnson, and Courtney Johnson, as well as his great-grandchildren, Joanna, Willa, and Rhys.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Dorothy Johnson, and his brother, Gary Johnson.
