Larry C. Howard, 88, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023 at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6220 Morningside Ave, in Sioux City. Visitation with the family present, will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. The burial will be in Schaller, IA at the City Cemetery, with military rites performed by the U.S. Navy. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Larry was born October 14, 1934 in Schaller, IA; he was the son of Vernon and Bernadette (Grant) Howard. Larry grew up in Schaller and graduated from Schaller High School. He had many happy childhood memories in Schaller where he made life-long friends. After graduation, Larry served in the U.S Navy from 1954 to 1957.
On January 11, 1958, Larry married Janice “Jan” M. Parkinson in Fairmont, MN. They raised their family on an acreage outside of Hinton, in a home that Larry built. His wife, Jan, passed away on December 9, 2004 in Sioux City.
Larry began his career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired from U.S. West after 35 years of service. He also served on the Board of the Telco Credit Union. Larry loved to dance, go to the casino, and research the genealogy of his family. He was a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Larry is survived by four of his children: Danny Howard (Kim) of Plymouth, MN, Julie Parkinson of Rapid City, SD, Tracy Howard (Jean) of St. Paul, NE, and Jodi Maturo (Pat) of Denver, CO; 2 sisters: Judy Nusbaum (Dave) of Parker, CO and Kathy Kvale of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren: Melissa, Nicholas, Jeremy, Ryan, Anthony, Jeffrey, Kelsey, Kayla, Timothy, Tyler, Taylor, Mia, Addy, James, Josh and Jordan. Larry is also survived by his great grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jan, a daughter Vicki and a granddaughter Charlotte.
