Kenneth George Brandvold, age 81, of Sioux City, IA, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Ken, the son of Howard & Helen (Nelson) Brandvold, was born on November 6, 1943, in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Ken’s life was characterized by dedication to his family, friendships, and faith in God.
Ken graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1962. He proceeded to work in the grocery business & banking industry, while balancing a family. For 25 years, Ken worked in the newspaper business being transferred to various locations (Flagstaff, AZ, Palm Springs, CA, and Beloit, WI) before settling in Sioux City. He worked at the Sioux City Journal as the business manager, starting in 1983 which fulfilled his career goal of working at the largest newspaper owned by the Hagadone Corporation. He quickly realized that success isn’t measured by money or status, so he took a risk and switched careers later in his life and sold real estate for almost 20 years for United Real Estate Solutions. Serving the Siouxland community was where he found his greatest passion both professionally and personally.
One of Ken’s dreams was to own a Corvette and he was fortunate to own three over the years! Those cars gave him such pleasure, as he traveled most of the midwest and Pacific Northwest with the Sioux City Corvette Club. It wasn’t just driving, it was getting to know a wide range of people, both in the car and on the road.
On January 5, 1991, Ken married Donna Treiber. They enjoyed traveling with the Corvette group, but took other trips all over the country that provided wonderful memories. The most meaningful trip was to the Holy Lands where he commented that the places and accounts in the Bible came to life, and that he would never be able to read it the same way again.
One of Ken’s greatest purposes & fulfillments in life was his faith in God and the community at Sunnybrook Community Church. There, he served in various ministries (elder, prayer & small group leader, mentor/counselor, hospital visitation team). Ken was so thankful for his pastor, accountability partner/mentor, and friend, Jeff Moes.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Donna, their children: Craig (Sally) Brandvold of Spokane, WA, Colleen (David) Conine of Spokane, WA, Amy (Dave) Dietrich of Hornick, IA, Tony (Deb) Treiber of Danbury, IA, and Tiffany (Brad) Adams of Lone Tree, CO; grandchildren: Ken Brandvold, Shannon Brandvold, Grace Conine, Clare Conine, Colt Petersen, Casie (Dustin) Widman, Charlee Petersen, Tatum Moore, and Amber Dietrich; step grandchildren: Kayla (Andrew) Danner, Levi (Alex) Thies, Kelsey (A.J.) Tillotson; 2 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Fred (Peggy) White, Barb (Jim) Chaney, Tom (Sandy) Brandvold, Ron (Kelli) Brandvold, many nieces & nephews, and extended family whom he loved.
Visitation for Ken will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Sunnybrook Community Church. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. with a time of prayer at 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
