Kay L. McCoy Schulz, 90, slipped quietly into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at her home in Climbing Hill, Iowa, surrounded by loving family.
Born on a farm near Sloan to Nora and William McCoy, Kay was the youngest of 10 siblings--her passing is the last of an era that stretched 110 years start to finish.
When she stepped through heaven’s gate, her parents, her nine beloved siblings, her husband Fred, and a crowd of nieces, nephews, and old friends were waiting with open arms.
A proud graduate of Bob Jones University, she carried her faith like a lantern through classrooms in Michigan, through a marriage to the love of her life, Fred Schulz, that ended too soon, and all the way back to Climbing Hill to care for her mother. Kay taught her nieces what fierce looked like wrapped in grace. She remembered every birthday in the McCoy clan—every single one—without fail.
She loved sports. She could tell a story from fifty years ago as if it happened yesterday and make you feel like the only person in the room.
She is survived by two stepsons, five grandchildren, 31 nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews who will carry her stories—and her love—in their hearts until they see her again.
To have been loved by Kay was to be truly seen, fiercely prayed for, and forever remembered. Hers was a beautiful life, well lived and deeply loved.
