Kathleen Jones Greene

Kathleen Jones Greene of Sioux City, Iowa passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024. A Celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held at Mayflower Congregational Church, 1407 West 18^th Street, Sioux City, Iowa on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.

Kathleen Jones Greene was born May 31, 1928 in Burke, SD to Art and Freda Jones.  At four years of age, she moved to Dupree, SD, where she completed her education graduating from high school in 1946.  She attended Yankton College in Yankton, SD.  Upon completing a two-year certificate, she came to Sioux City to teach.   While completing her teaching obligations, she finished her college degree at Morningside College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in 1955.  She went on to teach for thirty years before retiring in 1991.

She married Clarence Scott Greene in 1951.  Their marriage lasted for sixty-three years until Clarence’s death.   To that union there were born four children Brad, an infant son, Julie and Alan.  During their marriage, she loved travel, games, puzzles, reading, needlepoint, spending time with her kids and grandkids, and playing golf.  

Kathleen was active in church activities: teaching Sunday school, teaching Bible School, and substituting as organist.

She was a member of Sun Valley Golf Clubs on Monday and Thursday.  She was also a member of Couples Club at Hidden Acres with her husband.  She belonged to FA TTT.  She was a longtime member of the Siouxland Y and the Four Seasons Club, while actively pursuing a program of exercise.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her daughter, Julie; an infant son; her brothers, Leland and Larry; and her parents.

She is survived by sons, Bradley of Sioux City and Alan (Catherine) of Freeport, IL; brother, Robert (Sharon) Jones of Huron, SD; three grandchildren, Caitlin (Cody) Burns, Conor (Torey) Greene, and Ashling Greene; and great-grandchild, Caylee.
