Katherine Ann "Katy" Lias, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at her home in the comforting embrace of her loved ones. She fought a long courageous battle with cancer with strength, resilience, and love.
A Celebration of Life honoring Katy will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to dress casually or wear your favorite sports shirt, as family and friends come together to remember the joy Katy brought to their lives.
Born on January 17, 1979, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, the daughter of Patrick and Judy (Gasper) Lydon, Katy graced this world with her vibrant spirit and unwavering love for life. She had a love for her hometown Chicago roots.
Katy wore many hats throughout her life, but the most cherished was that of a mother. Her children, Mady and Jake, were the beating heart of her existence, and they were blessed to have her as their steadfast protector and biggest supporter. Katy’s love for her children was unmatched, and every game, activity, and moment spent together became a cherished memory etched in time.
Katy passionately participated in activities with her kids, cheering them on in basketball, baseball, and volleyball. Her infectious spirit ensured that every family outing was filled with laughter and joy, whether they were taking memorable trips to Disney World or enjoying annual visits to the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. She was also a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, enthusiastically attending games and celebrating the highs and lows of every season. Her adventurous heart led her to enjoy concerts, among which her admiration for Harry Styles stood out—an emblem of her vibrant personality and love for music that could connect hearts.
Katy is survived by her cherished children, Mady and Jake; her loving parents, Pat (Karen) Lydon of Elgin, IL, and Judy Lydon of Rockford, IL; her sister, Brigid McGehee of Poplar Grove, IL, and her beloved niece and nephews, Nathan, Alicen, and TJ McGehee. She also leaves behind many special extended family members and a huge support network of friends whose lives she touched with her kindness, warmth, and laughter.
Katy will be remembered not only for her passionate pursuits and her fierce dedication to her family but also for the love that radiated from her very essence—a legacy of warmth that will forever live in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
