Obituary

Katherine “Kathy” Senzarino, 88, a devoted wife, mother, nurse and friend, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home’s memory care unit.

Born on Sept. 6, 1937, in Warren, Ohio, she was the daughter pf Gus and Cora (Mines) Jickess.

Kathy was raised in Warren, where she completed her high school education at Warren G. Harding High School. She married Donald Senzarino, with whom she shared a lifelong partnership. They were blessed with two daughters.

They began their family life in Struthers, Ohio later moving into a brand-new home in Poland, Ohio.

Mom was an extremely hard worker. She prided herself on remembering the birthdays of family and friends. That fact made her suffering with the disease of dementia an even crueler trial which she endured with grace, humor and an always positive attitude. She always wanted to work, whether it be helping her fellow residents at Holy Spirit or in earlier days, mowing the lawn at her home on Jackson Street or shoveling the snow when it was barely light outside.

Kathy went back to school in the mid-1970s to earn a practical nursing degree. She was proud of her profession and spent more than 25 years working the night shift at a busy city hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

Outside of her professional life, Kathy found joy in the outdoors, spending countless hours working in her yard and going for walks. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble and reading mystery novels. Her love extended to her faithful companion, Maggie, a chihuahua-miniature pinscher mix, whom she adopted from a shelter.

Kathy is survived by her daughters, Peggy Senzarino and Lorraine (Harold) Jestel; her three grandchildren, Harrison Jestel, Katherine Jestel and Donald Jestel II; as well as her sister Cynthia (James) Benfer, and sister-in-law Marilyn Senzarino.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald in 2014, as well as her brothers, Jimmy (Ann) Jickess and Basil (Sara) Jickess.

Kathy’s life was marked by a deep commitment to family, a strong work ethic, and a joyful spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love and care. Her presence will be dearly missed but forever treasured in the hearts of her loved ones.

Abiding by her wishes, cremation will take place and services are pending. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.

The family asks those who wish to express sympathy consider a donation to the Siouxland Humane Society or the American Cancer Society. Kathy was a breast cancer survivor.
