Katherine ‘Kat’ Nora Vanderlinden age 56 of Sioux City passed away in the peace of her own home on Thursday, August 25, 2022. A Memorial Service will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Riverside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA.
Katherine ‘Kat’ Nora Vanderlinden was born March 28, 1966 in Tracy, MN, the daughter of Laurence and Leora (Foster) Flesner. She attended Lamberton High School and graduated in 1984. She then raised four beautiful babies, who blessed her with the title "Grannee" by sharing with her 20 beloved grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She met her true love, Brian Vanderlinden, after her children were grown, and they were married December 21, 2009 in Vermillion, SD. They spent the remainder of her days together in Sioux City, IA. Throughout her life, she worked a variety of jobs, developed countless skills and vast knowledge, and tended to a plethora of interests and hobbies.
Kat loved her entire family and her friends with boundless love, and made sure to let them know that she loved them every chance she was able. Her journey through life developed countless cherished memories that she carried with her always, sharing them often with those around her. Kat could frequently be heard laughing, which is a sound those who loved her dearly will not soon forget. She found joy in the small things like sunshine, rocks, and handwritten letters, as well as the grander things life has to offer. She could often be found behind the lens of a camera and adored sharing the images she captured. We are so grateful for the times she was in front of the lens, so we may adore the photos that remain now that her time on earth has come to an end.
She is survived by her children, Christopher Thooft (Ashley) of Elk Point, Tarah (Todd) Lidel of Wentworth, Kandyce Thooft (Jacob) of Sioux Falls, and Bradley (Dawna) Thooft of Inwood; husband, Brian Vanderlinden; mother-in-law, Roberta Vanderlinden of McCook Lake; sister-in-law, Laura (Gary) Howard of Sioux City, brother-in-law, Kevin (Lori) Vanderlinden of Sioux City; siblings: Susan (Mark) Bruns-Daniels of Morristown FL, Deb (Dan) Turbes of Revere, Anita Weber (Joel Byers) of Lamberton, Richard Weber of Lamberton, Linda DeSmith of Walnut Grove, Randy Flesner of Hampton, Sara (Randy) Panitzke of Mesa and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Leora and Laurence Flesner, sister in infancy Helen, the father of her children Roger Thooft, father-in-law Gary Vanderlinden, brother-in-law Gregg DeSmith, niece Carissa DeSmith, two grandchildren born into heaven, and many Grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
