Karen C. Smith

Karen C. Smith, 82 of South Sioux City passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022.  A memorial visitation will be Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Karen was born the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Nelson) Hedman on July 25, 1940 in Watertown, South Dakota.  She grew up and attended school in South Shore, South Dakota.  Karen married George F. Smith on August 19, 1967.  They enjoyed 53 years together.  George passed away in 2020.

Karen enjoyed going for walks and visiting with her neighbors.  She also loved her cats, playing her organ and bells, and sewing. 

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Dakota City where she was active in the choir.

Karen is survived by her children, Christine (Steven) Harder of Oto, IA, Leon (Mary) Smith of Sioux Falls, SD, Fay (Patty) Smith of Ames, IA, Elmer Smith of Lincoln, NE, and David (Julie) Smith of Gretna, NE; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and brother, David (Adie) Hedman of Minneapolis, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, George.
