Karen Kay Dirks, the daughter of Martin E. and Helen (Kenowith) Dirks was born on July 22, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa. She peacefully passed away on July 18, 2024 in Sioux City at the age of 78.
Karen's education journey started in Sioux City, where she graduated from Central High School in 1964. In her early years, Karen worked briefly at Weller Plastics in Sioux City before dedicating herself to her family and creating beautiful memories with them. She was known for her close bond with her family members and lived with several of them throughout her life.
Karen had a youthful and playful personality that earned her the affectionate nickname "Kido." Her constant smile and unmatched sweet tooth were well-known among her friends and loved ones. Karen's favorite treats included drinking Coke and indulging in cookies and chocolate donuts.
Apart from cherishing time with family, Karen had various hobbies and interests that brought her joy. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, watching game shows on TV, attending fairs and going to concerts with her best friend Donna.
Karen a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. This church held great significance in her life as it was where she received both baptism and confirmation.
Karen is survived by her sister, Loes (Bill) Abbe, along with numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored. In addition to her surviving family members, Karen had a special bond with her niece Kathy Abbe, who lovingly cared for her aunt in the past five years.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Helen Dirks; as well as three siblings: Betty Williams, Shirley Figge, and Eugene "Butch" Dirks.
Private services will be held for Karen with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
