Kandes "Kandi" L. Ackerly

Kandes “Kandi” L. Ackerly, 63 of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Abiding by her wishes, cremation will take place and private family services will be held.

Kandi was born the daughter of Richard and Bonneen (O’Dea) Bartle on August 7, 1959 in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from West High School in 1976. Kandi married Jim Ackerly on July 10, 1982 in Sioux City.

She worked for Payless Shoe Store and then Gateway for 15 years, where her favorite story was her first call she took from NASA.

Kandi enjoyed gardening, and her plants. She also loved feeding and watching the birds, or as she called them "her birds". She enjoyed taking day trips with her friends to Omaha or Sioux Falls to eat at their favorite restaurants and shop. She will be remembered for her quick wit and ability to bring a smile to everyone around her, with her favorite line being, "but have you had your heart on a table"? Her greatest moments were spent loving ans spoiling her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Kandi is survived by her husband, Jim Ackerly of Sioux City; sons, Robert Ackerly and his fiancé, Katie Zellmer of Onawa and Richie (Sarah) Ackerly of Sioux City; and grandchildren, Alison, Brynn, Emmaleigh, and Mason.

She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Gracelynn.
