Jutta C. Blume

Jutta Christel Blume, 92 of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025, in her home surrounded by her family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 9,2025 at Design West, 1014 Design Pl, from 5pm to 9pm.

Jutta was born the daughter of Fritz and Hanna (Lankowski) Mattisseck on December 2, 1932 in Neustadt, Germany. She grew up and attended university in Germany where she obtained her nursing degree. She met her future husband, Horst Blume at a hospital where she was a nurse while he was completing his medical residency. They immigrated to the United States in 1956 and got married December 20, 1958 in Denver, Colorado. They spent a short time in Boston before settling in Sioux City in 1962.

Jutta was an avid reader, often completing a book every few days. She had a passion for tennis and was an avid fan of the game. It was a passion she shared with her husband and children. She traveled with Horst to many places for work conferences and they also took yearly family ski trips that they all enjoyed. She enjoyed the success her children achieved in life and business and was her children’s biggest fan. Jutta loved birdwatching and tending to her African violets and orchids. She loved making traditional German dishes and desserts that were requested and enjoyed by all throughout the years.

In her later years Jutta spent her time going on tours with WIT’s Life Long Learning program, at the library, going to the symphony, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jutta is survived by her children, Gabrielle Steele, Claudia (John) Hessa, Monica (Mark) Ensminger, Christopher (Ruth) Blume, Mark (Jennifer) Blume; grandchildren Michael (Mandi) Steele, Nicholas (Nicole) Hessa, Christel (Banchee) Barnett, Jessica (Nick) Hinrichsen, Andrew Hessa, Payton Blume, Brynn Blume, Jameson Blume and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Horst; and siblings, Dieter and Helga.
