Julie Linn Tastad

Julie L. Tastad, 60 of Sioux City passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025 at her home. A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Sunnybrook Community Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M with 7:00 P.M. prayer service at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Julie was born the daughter of Lyman “Lee” Hurlburt and Carol Kiser on October 9, 1964 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Fonda High School and then completed a restaurant management degree at Iowa Lakes Community College. She was recruited down to Texas where she managed cafeterias for six years in the Ft. Worth area. Then she moved to Varina, Iowa and started school at Buena Vista University. Julie married Todd Tastad July 11, 1998 and they moved to Sioux City where they made their home.

Julie was a substitute teacher for a short time before beginning her career at the South Sioux City Middle School. She later obtained a master’s degree from Wayne State College. She retired after 20 plus years of teaching.

At the center of Julie’s life was her morning quiet time and daily devotionals and journaling. Julie had a heart for women’s ministry, and she loved sharing God's word with women in her Bible studies. In her free time, she enjoyed playing golf, bicycling, playing cards with friends, and going on coffee dates. She cherished her time with her grandchildren, especially holidays and birthdays when the family all made it a priority to be together. She did a lot of shopping and thrifting with Todd. They also enjoyed taking long walks and going for rides in the convertible.

Julie is survived by her husband, Todd Tastad; children, Chelsie Tastad and Tyler (Michelle) Tastad; grandchildren, Adalynn, Anna, Ace, and Chloe; mother, Carol Kiser; and sisters, Sonja (Ronnie) Hurlburt and Jackie (Dale) Hurlburt.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lee.
