Julie Ann McManigal, 72 of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on June 21, 2024 at the

University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Julie was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in March of 2024 and later died of complications due to an infection.

Julie was born the eldest daughter of Alvin and Joyce (Reed) Bates on December 27, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Homer Community School in 1970.

She married Dennis McManigal on September 19, 1970 and together they raised their three children in their rural Dakota City, Nebraska home. Julie worked for many years at the HyVee Bakeries in Sioux City, Iowa.

Julie took great pride in her work and enjoyed planting flowers and working in her yard.

Survivors include her mother Joyce Lengle of Sioux City, IA, fiance, Rick (Digger) O’Dell of South Sioux City, NE. Children, Christy (Yayle) Roncka, of Elkhorn, NE; Amy McManigal (Tarry Daum) of Emerson, NE; and Kevin McManigal of Dakota City, NE. Grandchildren; Austin Schweers of Sioux Falls, SD, Hunter (Kenna) Schweers of Naperville, IL, Taylor Daum of Lincoln, NE, Jordan Daum of Emerson, NE and Rylie (Dustin) Amick of Sioux City, IA.

Great Granddaughter, Teagan Amick of Sioux City, IA. Siblings, Cindy Bligh of South Sioux City, NE, Kathy (Denny) Welch of Hubbard, NE, Donnie (Wanda) Lengle of Dakota City, NE, Janice Konradi of Sioux City, IA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Julie was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Bates; Stepmother, Freda Bates; Stepfather, Trevor Lengle; Brother-in-law, Mike Konradi.

As per Julie’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and close friends at a later date.
