Judy A. “Spurlock” Svendsen, 75, of Sioux City, IA, passed away, Thursday, August 17, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family. A visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2023, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com

Judy Spurlock was born on January 23, 1948, in Sioux City to John and Lucille (Mummert) Spurlock. Judy married Ray Svendsen on May 28, 196, in South Sioux City, NE. She lived her entire life in Sioux City, except for one year that was spent in Talheim, Germany. She went to school at Everett Elementary School, West Junior High, and Central High School. She worked several jobs through the years including: Kresges, Younkers, Robb Ross, Zenith, and lastly Sioux City Community Schools where she worked as a lunch lady until she retired after 30+ years of service. Judy and her husband also owned Ray’s Gutter Service for Almost forty years, before passing it down to their son, Terry Svendsen who still owns and operates it today.

During her life, she spent over 20 years on the PTO Board at Everett Elementary serving as both the treasurer and secretary at different times. She also received the Governors Volunteer Award in 1985 for her work on getting drug programs integrated into our local systems and working towards the license of Video Parlors within the city at that time by two different groups called Westside Crime and Safety Coalition and Siouxland Parents for Drug & Alcohol Awareness.

She loved her camper, garage sales and Saturday night cards.

The love of her life was her husband Ray, her two children, Terry (Jennifer) Svendsen and Shelly (Malachi) Ouellette, eight grandchildren: Blake (Ashlyn) Ouellette, Shelbie (Tyler) Ouellette, Nick Svendsen, Austin (Kiana) Svendsen, Autumn Svendsen, Shalee Barreras, Lindsey (Zach) Barreras, Mikki (Michelle) Demary, five great-grandchildren: Gentry Ouellette, Harper Ouellette, Haven Ouellette, Gabriela Barreras, Brynn Thompson, a niece: Gabrielle Shay. Besides her family she leaves behind a very special lifelong friend and soul sister, Julie Freese.

She has now joined her father John Spurlock Sr., mother, Lucille Spurlock, brother, John Spurlock Jr., as well her grandparents, Carl, and Florence Mummert and C.E. and Mellie Spurlock.
